" Martin has been our celebrant for three beautiful and unique occasions. The first was our daughters naming ceremony. Her dad was very skeptical about the whole thing and only reluctantly did he agree to have the ceremony. Martin's beautiful words and the feeling of love and community he bought to the celebration changed his views completely and when we had our son four years later he was full of enthusiasm for the celebration. Our sons naming celebration was just as loving, Martin's ability to involve and capture the attention of everyone present is remarkable (especially as at all our celebrations the children seem to outnumber the adults). As well as doing our children's naming celebration Martin also did our wedding. In a muddy field, squished into a tiny marquee with extremely high winds Martin not only managed to make himself heard, he also conducted the ceremony with great love, humour and many wise words. "Martin was able to meet with us before our ceremony and put us at ease with any misgivings we were holding on to. This was the second attempt on the Marriage Summit for both of us and Martin managed to inspire a sort of innocent joyous anticipation for the day with his well-chosen plans of service. On the day of our nuptials, our plans for an outdoor wedding were altered by heavy rain which required pop-up rain shelters to be erected in a car park next to our bucolic site. Throughout the day, Martin steered our little boat of marriage with his resonant eloquence and innate sensitivity to a peaceful harbour where all the thunderstorms were forgotten and even the children seemed thrilled at the prospect of the wedding songs. Friends brought musical instruments and sang gorgeous hymns which was the closest thing to sunshine available that day. Martin made everyone feel an integral part of the ceremony whatever their faith. All our children were also given a spotlight by his guidance as we all held hands to sing the final song. Martin's gifts created an exciting but profound atmosphere with a surprising level of intimacy and we embarked on the adventure of our marriage - happy, satisfied, inspired. "Testimonial for Fr. Martin McManus for services of ministering marriage ceremonies. When we got engaged my husband and I were a bit concerned about how we were going have a wedding celebration that reflected us both well. We come from very different backgrounds and our spiritual beliefs/non beliefs differ somewhat. We asked Martin if he'd be willing to marry us and he said yes! He presented us initially with a very traditional ceremony as a starting point and I believe our general request was for 'less God, more community' for our wedding service. Martin gave us a ceremony so perfectly matched to both our different life views and captured the essence of our relationship. Our wedding ceremony was personal and joyous and Martin included our friends and family and also traditions from my Mexican heritage. He produced a wedding that was at once traditional yet highly personal to us and, importantly, incredibly enjoyable. Our guests were incredibly taken by how individual our wedding ceremony was; one couple so much so that, once they got engaged, asked Martin to do their wedding too (another wonderful ceremony we were privileged to attend). Martin completely welcomed our input and told us we could decide on as much or as little of the contents and detail as we liked. This was great as, although we had an idea of the general gist and feel we wanted, we didn't know how to put together a coherent wedding ceremony. We wrote our own vows, chose some readings for friends to do and the music, other than that Martin put together the rest. Our wedding ceremony was so beautiful and special and, rightly so, was the highlight of the day. Anyone asking Martin to be the celebrant of their special occasion will forever remember it with warm and happy feelings! Thank you Martin!
